Sailing takes me away...
..to where I've always heard it could be. Just a dream and the wind to carry me, And soon I will be free…
- Christopher Cross
As I sought someone for my next podcast interview, I guess you could say I called upon the wind and a dream to lead the way. Soon I would find the perfect guest in my friend Angela Smith Covey.
For Angela and her husband Perry, sailing is not only a hobby, it is now their full-time gig.
Angela and I met working together at a dot-com out of Pittsburgh in 2008/2009 and since then we've re-connected every year or so to catch up on where we are on the journey of life. A few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Angela had sold the ranch and moved to live on a boat in the Bahamas!
It was once again time to re-connect and I finally had a chance to capture her amazing thirty-year journey from the mid-west to the Caribbean Sea. It is my sincere hope that Angela’s story will not only inspire a new generation of Christopher Cross fans, but will also motivate you to adjust your sails, head out into the sea, and ride like the wind.

In 1979, singer/songwriter Christopher Cross released his hit single “Sailing” which not only won multiple Grammy’s in 1980, it became the flagship song for ‘yacht rock’ lovers coast-to-coast. It hit #1 in Canada and stayed #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts for an entire week. Yes, even Mr. Cross was surprised at the success of one of the most ’softsational soft-rock songs of all time’.
Cheers,
Mike
